A lot of the Telia reps are clueless. Here in Sweden we have to wait a year to unlock them. I trade alot of mobiles and electronics at my store/shop so I always get phones to unlock. I found it best to use a service like www.frimobil.nu because not only can I sit at my computer without talking to customer service but I can unlock the phones (Telia/Telenor/Tele2/AT&T iPhone unlocks) from other networks too. Telia in Sweden charges 350 sek to unlock if you are outside of the 12 month service period. Frimobil charges 300kr to unlock if you are out of the 12 month service period and about double if you are still in it.

Although, this is over a year since the last post - I thought I'd share my experience.
My binding time just expired (24 months).

I took a new iPhone 4 and wanted to get my iPhone 3G unlocked.

I called the support line 90200 (sverige) was told to go into a Telia shop.
In the shop, I was told it would cost 300sek to unlock it. This was not what I was told previously - I was told, it would cost 300sek after 12 months, but would be unlocked free after 24 months.
Not happy.

So, I called the support line again - 300sek it is - I cannot find the original villkor (T&C's). But the phone works with any Telia SIM - tried it with my wife's - works fine.

If you want to get your phone unlocked for another operator, you are going to have to pay.

It seems that Telia support cannot search their customer database by IMEI, they need to find the original contract the phone was issued under.
I asked the hypothetical question about refill cards in the shop, he said, "If you bought an iPhone 2nd hand, you will need to prove that the unlocking period is expired." - they need the original mobile number for that or the customer ID.

- so you really need the original owner to get it unlocked prior to selling it.

Hi kagan,
Take the time to read the previous posts. As you can see, no one here has a solution yet.

Sorry to hear that, but yeah, so far it doesn't seem like a good idea to buy a locked iPhone. Better get the previous owner to unlock it before you buy it.

It would still be interesting to know if anyone has had lock unlocking an iPhone by buying a pre-paid Telia card...

Hi Adem,

I've had the same question asked before, but I'm afraid I don't have a verified solution.

Someone suggested buying a (cheap) pre-paid Telia card, as a way to get a phone number to use for unlocking, but I have not heard back from the guy who suggested it, so I don't know if it would work. Maybe you could give that a try, and let us know if it worked.
